Alive & Westbury Court

I enjoyed reading these essays!!! They brought excitement to my homework! The point of these essays is that no matter how safe a person can be, something horrible can always happen. By being "alive" one is always vulnerable to severe things that happen. Also, in "Westbury Court," the narrator listed all the bad things that happened while she was living in her apartment (the fire, the murder, the man who died of cancer, the thief) but she still was okay with living there. She felt safe even with everything that happened. One can take so many precautions, but sometimes that doesn't matter because bad things always have a way of occurring. In "Alive," the narrator used to be a cop so she has seen a lot happen. This is good and bad. It is bad in a sense that when she saw a man who was going to the same place as her, she was freaked out and thought he was following her (but he wasn't). Everyone is at risk by being alive. Accumulation was used in both essays. They had a series of events throughout the essays leading up to the point of each writing.
